Vegan Options at The Cheesecake Factory

THE VERDICTBig menu, careful ordering

The Cheesecake Factory has more vegan possibilities than most sit-down chains, but you have to order carefully. The Vegan Cobb salad is vegan as listed, the Thai lettuce wraps work with avocado, and several pastas and noodle dishes can be made vegan by dropping the cheese, butter and egg. Ask for the sourdough bread.

There's no vegan cheesecake or other vegan dessert beyond fresh strawberries with no whipped cream.

The Cheesecake Factory's menu is famously long, and almost all of them involve cheese, butter, cream or egg somewhere. Yet it's also one of the few big US chains with a dish that has "vegan" in its name. With a bit of planning you can eat well here. Without it, you'll be picking croutons off a salad while everyone else eats cheesecake.

We checked this guide against current vegan and dairy-free guides in October 2026. The Cheesecake Factory doesn't publish full ingredient lists, and some dishes are made differently at different locations, so always tell your server you're vegan and ask them to check.

The Vegan Cobb salad

This is the safest order on the menu. It's a big plate of greens with avocado, grilled asparagus, roasted beets, green beans, tomato, cucumber, carrot, quinoa, farro, almonds and pepitas, tossed in the house vinaigrette. It's vegan as written, so there's nothing to remove and less that can go wrong.

If you want more, add a side of edamame or sautéed spinach (no butter) and you've got a full meal.

Is the brown bread vegan?

The free bread basket usually has two loaves: a sourdough baguette and the dark, slightly sweet "brown bread" (a wheat baguette). The Cheesecake Factory doesn't publish the recipe for either.

  • Sourdough baguette: Veganuary reports it contains no egg, milk or butter. This is the one to eat.
  • Brown bread: We can't confirm it. Go Dairy Free says some locations have reported dairy in it, and popular copycat recipes are sweetened with honey. Until the chain says otherwise, treat it as a question for your server.

Either way, ask for the bread without butter, or with olive oil and pepper.

Pastas and noodles

Most of the pasta dishes come with cream, cheese or butter. A few can be stripped back:

Dish Status What to remove
Evelyn's Favorite Pasta With swaps Parmesan, butter sauce, garlic dip, lemon sauce, basil oil.
Pasta with marinara With swaps Cheese. The marinara is made without milk.
Shrimp with angel hair With swaps Shrimp (the price may not drop). Ask about butter.
Thai stir-fried noodles With swaps Egg and butter.
Kids' pasta with marinara With swaps Parmesan.
Gluten-free pasta swap Depends Ask whether it contains egg.
Alfredo, carbonara, Cajun jambalaya pasta Not vegan Cream, cheese, egg or meat.

When you order a modified pasta, say "vegan, so no cheese, butter or cream" rather than listing ingredients one by one. It gives the kitchen the full picture.

Appetizers, salads and sides

Appetizers: The Thai lettuce wraps with avocado and the edamame are the easiest starters. Guacamole with chips works if you skip the sour cream. The Korean fried cauliflower is popular with vegans, but some locations may use egg in the batter, so ask.

Salads: Besides the Vegan Cobb, the little house salad and tossed green salad work without croutons. Bigger salads such as the Santa Fe can be made vegan by removing chicken, cheese and crispy toppings, but at that point you've paid for a lot of lettuce. Ask which vinaigrettes are vegan; the creamy dressings aren't.

Sides: Grilled asparagus, steamed broccoli, corn, green beans, sautéed spinach, steamed white or brown rice, avocado and sliced tomatoes are all options. Ask for vegetables and rice with no butter.

How to order vegan at The Cheesecake Factory

  1. Tell your server you're vegan at the start. Mention dairy, eggs, butter and honey.
  2. Ask for the sourdough bread rather than the brown bread, and no butter.
  3. Order something vegan as written (the Vegan Cobb or the avocado lettuce wraps) if you'd rather not modify.
  4. For modified dishes, say "no butter" explicitly. Butter is the most common hidden ingredient in vegetables, rice and pasta here.
  5. Check limited-time dishes. The Cheesecake Factory adds new items regularly, and recent menus have included things like charred sugar snap peas and an Asian cucumber salad that vegan guides list. Ask your server to check the ingredients.

What's not vegan

  • Every cheesecake, cake and dessert, except fresh strawberries without the cream.
  • Creamy dressings and croutons.
  • Most pastas as listed, which come with cheese, cream or butter.
  • Avocado eggrolls and other fried appetizers unless your server confirms the wrapper and batter.
  • Most breakfast and brunch dishes, which rely on eggs, butter and cream.

Is there a vegan cheesecake?

No. For a restaurant named after cheesecake, this is the sad part. As of mid-2026, VegNews reports that a dairy-free cheesecake still hasn't made it onto the menu, and all the cakes contain dairy and eggs. If you want vegan cheesecake, look for a local vegan bakery, or try a homemade version with an Oreo crust.

Cross-contact

The kitchen is shared, and the fries are cooked in the same oil as animal products. That doesn't change our verdicts, but tell your server about any allergies, especially egg, since some batters and pastas vary by location.

Vegetarian, gluten and allergy notes

Vegetarians have plenty of choice here. If you're vegan and gluten-free, the Vegan Cobb salad contains farro, which has gluten, so ask about swapping it. The gluten-free pasta option should be checked for egg.

How The Cheesecake Factory compares

Chain Best vegan order Our verdict
The Cheesecake Factory Vegan Cobb salad, lettuce wraps with avocado Big menu, careful ordering
Olive Garden Spaghetti marinara, minestrone, breadsticks A decent vegan meal
Panera Mediterranean Veggie sandwich, no feta Yes, with swaps

The bottom line

The Cheesecake Factory is workable if you stick to the Vegan Cobb salad or the avocado lettuce wraps, eat the sourdough bread rather than the brown bread, and say "no butter" a lot. Dessert is strawberries. For a simpler sit-down meal, Olive Garden is easier. See the vegan fast food guide for more chains.

FAQ

Does The Cheesecake Factory have a vegan cheesecake?
No. As of 2026 none of the cheesecakes or cakes are vegan; they all contain dairy and eggs. The only vegan dessert option is a bowl of fresh strawberries with no whipped cream.
Is The Cheesecake Factory brown bread vegan?
We can't confirm it. The chain doesn't publish the recipe, some diners have reported dairy in it, and copycat recipes typically use honey. Ask for the sourdough baguette instead, which vegan guides list as free of egg, milk and butter.
What is in the Vegan Cobb salad?
Greens with avocado, grilled asparagus, roasted beets, green beans, tomato, cucumber, carrot, quinoa, farro, almonds and pepitas, dressed with the house vinaigrette. It's one of the few dishes that is vegan without changes.
Does The Cheesecake Factory still have the Impossible Burger?
It appears not. Recent guides report that the Impossible burgers have been dropped from the menu. Some locations serve a Veggie Burger that can be made vegan by removing the cheese and aioli, but the recipe varies, so ask your server.
Is The Cheesecake Factory pasta vegan?
Several dried pastas can be made vegan by asking for no cheese and no butter, and the marinara is made without milk. Ask your server to confirm the pasta has no egg, especially if you request a gluten-free swap.
Are The Cheesecake Factory fries vegan?
The regular and sweet potato fries contain no animal ingredients, but they're cooked in the same oil as animal products. That's a cross-contact note, not a verdict changer for most vegans.
What's the best vegan meal at The Cheesecake Factory?
Start with the Thai lettuce wraps with avocado or edamame, then the Vegan Cobb salad or Evelyn's Favorite Pasta with no cheese, butter sauce or garlic dip. Finish with strawberries.
Are The Cheesecake Factory bagels vegan?
Sources disagree. One guide says the bagels list eggs; others list plain bagels as vegan. Ask to see the ingredients at your location before ordering one.
